Behind Usagi&Mie

Where do your designs come from?

All concepts and designs are original and made by me. I have had a design career for over 20 years and have always dreamed about having a gift boutique with my own designed home goods and accessories (preferably on the coast of Mallorca!)


My designs are inspired by my experiences living and traveling throughout the world as well as my own connection with various cultures. I am located in New York City but have lived in Orléans, France as well as Yashio City, Japan (just above Tokyo). I have traveled to somewhere around 24 countries and speak English, French, Spanish, and Japanese. 


I love the idea of reinventing pattern elements and love bright colors which I try to incorporate into my designs and which make me happy. Hopefully, my designs will make you happy too.

Where did the name Usagi&Mie come from?

Usagi (pronounced oo-sah-gee) means "rabbit" in Japanese and was a nickname of mine when I was young. I was told that I look like a rabbit and the name stuck. I decided to use the Japanese version because of my affinity for languages, cultures and having lived in Japan.


Mie (pronounced mee-ay) is a Japanese female name, which I gave to my favorite cat.

For me, Usagi&Mie evokes the image of my cat and me, setting out on this journey and traveling through the world. I feel like there should be a quaint, folkloric story around this, so stay tuned. I may make a book!

How are your products made?

We work with first-rate, print-on-demand companies. All items are of premium quality and printed and then handmade or sewn in one of our facilities in the US, England, Latvia, or Mexico. We try our best to ensure that all products adhere to strict standards so that when you get them, they will delight you. Should a product not meet these standards, please contact us within 30 days of receipt at info@usagimie.com and let us know the issue. We do not issue returns but on the off-chance a product has not been produced to standards, we will work together to rectify the situation.

When will I get my order?

As each item is made to order, usually it takes 3–7 days to fulfill. After which, it is shipped out. Shipping time depends on your location and where it is shipped from, but can be estimated as follows:


  • USA: 3–4 business days
  • Europe: 6–8 business days
  • Australia: 2–14 business days
  • Japan: 4–8 business days
  • International: 10–20 business days

Our fulfillment times may be longer than usual and may continue to increase until things get back to normal. We're seeing delays in our supply chain, including distributors and shipping carriers as the entire industry is grappling with challenges.

 

Where will my order ship from?

We work with first-rate, print-on-demand companies with facilities worldwide. This means that depending on where you are, your orders are printed, handmade, and shipped from the facility that can do it the most efficiently. Currently we have facilities located in the US, England, Latvia, and Mexico. When ordering multiple items, it is possible that items in your order will arrive separately.



How do I track my order?

You’ll receive a tracking link via email when your order ships out. If you have any questions about your tracking or shipment, drop us a line at info@usagimie.com.

Do you ship internationally?

We ship internationally via DHL Express. As each item is made to order, usually it takes 3–7 days to fulfill. After which, it is shipped out. Shipping time depends on your location and where it is shipped from, but can be estimated as follows:

  • USA: 3–4 business days
  • Europe: 6–8 business days
  • Australia: 2–14 business days
  • Japan: 4–8 business days
  • International: 10–20 business days

What happens if my package is returned to sender?

If your package is returned to our warehouse please email us at info@usagimie.com with confirmation of your shipping address and order number so we may investigate. If the reason for return by carrier is “insufficient address” we will be able to reship but the customer is responsible for any additional shipping charges. Please be aware, due to the high rate of package theft, some packages may require a signature and you may be required to be home to accept the package. If your package is returned due to “no signature” we will be able to reship but the customer is responsible for any additional shipping charges. If it is deemed carrier error we will be able to reship without additional charges to the customer.

Will I be charged customs for my order?

An additional customs and tax fee can occur on international orders. This fee is not in our control and is assessed by your local customs office. Customs policies vary widely for every country so please check with your local customs office directly to see if they apply duties and taxes to your purchases.

My order should be here by now, but I still don't have it. What should I do?

Before getting in touch with us, please help us out by doing the following:


  • Check your shipping confirmation email for any mistakes in the delivery address
  • Ask your local post office if they have your package
  • Stop by your neighbors in case the courier left the package with them

If the shipping address was correct, and the package wasn't left at the post office or at your neighbor’s, get in touch with us at info@usagimie.com with your order number. If you did find a mistake in your delivery address, we can send you a replacement order, but shipping will be at your own cost.

I received a wrong/damaged product, what should I do?

We’re so sorry if the product you ordered arrived damaged. To help us resolve this for you quickly, please email us at info@usagimie.com within a weeks' time with photos of the damaged product, your order number, and any other details you may have about your order. We’ll get back to you with a resolution as soon as possible!

Return Policy

What’s your return policy?

We stand behind the quality of our products. If you aren't satisfied with your purchase, you are welcome to return for store credit or exchange it within 30 days of the date it was delivered. If more than 30 days have gone by since your purchase was delivered, we unfortunately cannot offer you a return or exchange. For items purchased between October-December as holiday presents, we do allow exchanges up until January 31st. Contact us at info@usagimie.com with the subject "Returns", the reason for your return, and order number.


Several types of goods are exempt from being returned/exchanged, and will be immediately sent back to you if returned:


  • Socks
  • Opened or used notepads / greeting cards / wrapping paper

Please review product description and size chart to ensure you purchase your desired item. If you have any questions about a product, or if something is wrong with your order, please contact us at info@usagimie.com.


International Customers
Unfortunately at this time, due to the customs information involved, we are only able to offer store credit and not exchanges. If you are an international customer and would like to return an item, please reach out to info@usagimie.com, and we will offer you further instruction from there.

  • To be eligible for a return, goods must be unopened, unused, undamaged and accompanied by proof of purchase.
  • We will then provide you with instructions where to send returned goods. Customers are strongly recommended to get proof of postage when returning goods to avoid "lost packages" situations.
  • Please note that customers are responsible for shipping costs of returned items.
  • When returned item is received and inspected, customer receives a confirmation email.
  • If the store credit is approved, it will be automatically applied to the customer's account.

I received a wrong/damaged product, what should I do?

We’re so sorry if the product you ordered arrived damaged. Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are only offered to customers that receive the wrong items or damaged items. If any of these apply, please contact us at info@usagimie.com with photos of wrong/damaged items and we’ll sort it out for you.

Can I exchange an item for a different size/color?

Items can be exchanged within 30 days of receipt. Please contact us with the reason for exchange and which item you would like at info@usagimie.com.

ALL SALE ITEMS ARE FINAL

No returns or exchanges are available on final sale items.

All deliveries, services and information provided shall be performed according to Usagi&Mie’s terms and conditions. Purchases

The Usagi&Mie web store aims to provide high quality home goods items, accessories, and clothing to you, the consumer. Purchases made on this website are for the personal or gift use of the purchaser only. Re-sale, commercial purposes, or any other commercial benefit is prohibited. Additionally, no Usagi&Mie products may be used for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.

We reserve the right not to accept your order if we are unable to obtain authorization for your payment. We also reserve the right to refuse to process a transaction for any reason or refuse service to anyone at any time at our sole discretion. We strive to keep your orders as well as payments as secure as we can, however, in the case of third party unauthorized access to any customer data, we will not be held responsible for any loss on your side.

Prices

All prices in the Usagi&Mie web shop are listed in US Dollars, unless adjusted through automatic geolocation. However, shipping costs are not included in the price, but calculated as an extra flat-rate charge upon checkout. All prices are subject to change at any time.

Colors

Please note that we have made every effort to render product information and colors accurately. However, due to the various displays and color capabilities of computer monitors, the color and/or representation might not be exactly the same as the actual item. We cannot be responsible for the color accuracy of your computer monitor.

Content Ownership

All material, information, and images published on the Usagi&Mie website and Usagi&Mie web store are the property of Usagi&Mie.  Any use of such without the express written permission of an authorized Usagi&Mie representative is expressly and strictly forbidden.

 Furthermore, there is no warranty that your use of the Usagi&mie website will be free of errors or uninterrupted.

Liability

You agree that Usagi&Mie shall be held harmless and shall not be liable for any damage, loss or expense due in full or in part arising out of or resulting from using the Usagi&Mie website or purchasing from the Usagi&Mie web store. Privacy Policy

Data Storage

Our store is hosted on Shopify. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you. Your data is stored through Shopify's data storage, databases and the general Shopify application. Your data is stored on a secure server behind a firewall. Payment: If you choose a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase, then Shopify Payments, powered by Stripe, stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted. All direct payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of credit card information by our store and its service providers.
